Cowichan Bay: a waterfront day with a wooden-boat story
Explore a working coastal village through its Maritime Centre, small businesses and waterside setting.
Begin with the village, not a checklist
Tourism Cowichan’s village guide is a useful introduction to the waterfront and its food businesses. Choose a lawful parking place and look at the pedestrian route before setting off. Waterfront communities include working areas and private docks as well as visitor spaces.
A view across the bay does not make a jetty public. Follow signs and keep entrances, boat access and working spaces clear. The rewarding part of a visit is often watching the relationship between village and water from places intended for visitors.
Give the Maritime Centre time
The Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre explores wooden boats and coastal maritime heritage. Its pier exhibits make the setting part of the visit. Confirm current opening directly: the operator’s website showed conflicting hours during our September 2026 review.
Use the Centre’s own interpretation for the people, craft and cultural knowledge represented in its displays. A boatbuilding course or event may require separate arrangements; a general museum visit does not automatically include it.
Choose lunch around your plans
Decide whether you want a quick stop or a table with time to spare. Check a restaurant’s own service hours and make a booking when timing matters. Ask about dietary requirements before arrival rather than relying on a regional directory entry.

Keep a weather alternative
Water activities depend on conditions and the provider’s decision. If you book one, ask what happens if it cannot go ahead and keep the rest of the day useful without it.
A town outing in Duncan can offer a different focus. Check museum opening before swapping plans; changing the destination alone does not solve a closed-door problem.
